My First GameJam
Today is a big day. This post marks my first game release, as a part of the GameOff2019 game jam. Working with just a small team of strangers (shout out to Bricks, VJS, Livin') over the past month, we managed to actually put out something that feels relatively complete and I am proud of it (though I would love any / all feedback).
This is made all the more gratifying given I actually decided to quit my job in finance (have been in for the past 5 years) at the end of the year to pursue game development full time. (Hold your "Don't quit your day job" comments. It is already too late). Though it is a little bit scary sacrificing that stability, I can honestly say I have never been happier in my life and had so much fun working on this project.
I have been learning Unity / game design / game development off and on for the past couple years but this project was different. I went all in and had a blast.
Transilio (meaning "jump across, leap over" in Latin) is a systems based puzzle platformer that is actually pretty fun / challenging. Even through development, I was surprised frequently in the interesting ways that few mechanics that we created would interact with each other and the cool puzzles that came as a result of it. Multiple times I would play test a level that Bricks (our lead designer) had created and ask him if it was solvable yet / glitched, only to have him assure me that, in fact, it was and I am just an idiot. If people take a liking to the puzzles we created, I would be super interested in expanding on the game (and might just do it for fun anyways).
For people who like the game (or even that hated it), we would love to hear from you either in the comments / boards here on Itch or via the Discord server we set up: https://discord.gg/4DHmjCk
For those of you who want to keep in touch / see what path I take through unemployment, follow me on twitter (I desperately need followers... I have two): https://twitter.com/drakesgames
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
